Hoch, Dr. Loren and Emma Scholarship Fund
The Dr. Loren and Emma Hoch Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 to assist senior students in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Loren Hoch created the fund to honor the memory of his late wife, Emma, as well as to display the family’s willingness to help others.
The Hochs came to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in 1969 from Hammond, Ind., and quickly fell in love with the region as well as the University. Dr. Hoch was a K-12 science educator in the College of Education. His major assignment was to help elementary education majors with a science concentration. Mrs. Hoch was involved with the University through various community initiatives. The Hoch family has maintained a passion for education, as each of their three sons went into some form of teaching. Dr. Loren and Mrs. Hoch were married for 62 years.
Dr. Hoch would like to help students pursuing a degree in his favorite course of study, biology.
Applicants must be enrolled full time in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, pursuing a degree in biology. The scholarship recipient shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The fund will support students in their final year of pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
