Steininger, Frank and Karen Faculty Fellowship
The Frank and Karen Steininger Faculty Fellowship was originally established in 2006 by Frank and Karen Steininger and revised in 2019.
Following his graduation from the University of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Frank started his public accounting career in 1980 in the Cleveland office of Price Waterhouse. In 1985, he was selected to participate in the firm's international tour-of-duty program, spending two years in Johannesburg, South Africa. Frank was admitted to the firm's partnership in 1991 and transferred to the Pittsburgh office. In 1997, he transferred to Houston to work in the firm's Energy practice.
During Frank’s more than 34 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, he has directed a wide variety of audit engagements of public and private companies in the petroleum, chemical, mining and consumer products industries. He has significant SEC reporting experience including IPO's, equity and debt offerings and acquisitions and has significant international business experience.
In 2014, Frank retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers and joined Civeo Corporation as their Chief Financial Officer, a publicly traded company in Houston. Civeo provides accommodations and hospitality services to energy companies in Canada, Australia and the United States. Frank is actively involved in Junior Achievement and currently serves on the Board and Executive Committee. He and his wife, Karen (also a University of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ graduate), reside in Houston. The Steiningers have two sons, Sean and Matthew.
Frank and Karen are active contributors to the University of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ where Frank serves on the Advisory Board. Frank is also a member of the Foundation Board. In honor of their contribution and service to the Daverio School, they have established The Frank and Karen Faculty Fellowship to support faculty development.
The Frank and Karen Steininger Faculty Fellowship requirements are as follows:
- Fellows will be selected from the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy faculty for a one-year term that may be renewed. Tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenured track faculty members are eligible.
- The selection of faculty to receive Steininger Faculty Fellowships will be conducted by the Chair of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy (SOA) and the Dean of the College of Business Administration (CBA).
- The criteria for selection will be:
- Highly effective teaching as evidenced by the quality and currency of materials used in the classroom, effective classroom delivery, classroom innovation, currency in the field, and the quality of projects and assessment tools used.
- Demonstrated commitments to scholarship, including journal publications and presentations within the last three years that contribute to practice, teaching and learning, and the accounting discipline.
- Demonstrating substantive commitment to the profession and the School of Accountancy as evidenced by involvement in professional service at the local, regional or national levels, and/or involvement in service activities crucial to the SOA’s mission at a level beyond normally expectations of SOA faculty.
- Each faculty member receiving a Fellowship will produce a one-page annual report of their accomplishments and submit it to the Chair of the Daverio School of Accountancy by the last day of spring semester.
- Multiple faculty may receive Steininger Fellowships at one time. Faculty receiving Steininger Fellowships will be appropriately recognized on email, the CBA web-page, the SOA web-page and other appropriate media.
- The funds will be used solely to support the Fellow’s professional development activities, and used at their discretion to support their teaching, research and service activities. Examples of appropriate use are travel, registration fees for professional and academic conferences, computer hardware and software, database access, memberships in professional organizations, professional journal subscriptions, acquisition of reference materials not available via the UA library system, submission fees for approved journals, research assistance, instructional support assistance and service assistance via graduate or undergraduate student assistants. This support will be in addition to the normal support by the SOA. Unspent funds may be carried into the next year.
