Jones, Gary L. and Sue Endowed Scholarship for Working Students
The Gary L. and Sue Jones Endowed Scholarship for Working Students was established by Gary and Sue Jones in 2018. Gary L. Jones was an educator from 1969 to 2006, teaching and counseling elementary through high school special education students. He attended Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 and Master of Arts degree in 1974 in Education. He also held teaching certificates in five disciplines. Gary taught in several states and enjoyed interacting with his students. Sue Jones’ career was in the world of business from 1967 to 2014, working in manufacturing, commercial banking and software development. She attended Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ for two years and completed her bachelor’s degree in 1982 in Business at Capital University. She retired from Wachovia Bank as a Group Executive and later worked with several start-up software companies. Both Mr. and Mrs. Jones worked while obtaining their degrees. In retirement they enjoyed volunteering, travel, fishing and golf.
The Gary L. and Sue Jones Endowed Scholarship for Working Students provides assistance to students motivated to achieve college degrees by working to help pay for their academic coursework, books and fees. Consideration will be given to students enrolled full-time in any University of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ major degree program, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and who demonstrate hardship and/or financial need.
The scholarship is renewable provided recipients remain in good academic standing and are working toward degree completion in four to five years. Scholarships will be applied directly to a student’s account for tuition and fees. Recipients will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee and scholarship amounts and number of recipients will vary annually depending on available funds.
